Maybe because i started playing songs on an acoustic guitar before getting my hands on my strat. I feel there are so many bands that you just cannot afford to ignore. I would like to share with you some of my recent discoveries. Of my personal favourites, its always been the eagles. But it was Steve Earle who inspired me to pick up the guitar in first place. When i heard his song 'Someday' in the movie 'Bridge to Terabithia', i just wanted to get a guitar by hook or crook, just to be able to play that song! His album 'Guitar Town' was a treat to this world. Recently i heard one more song that i've been playing frequently, called 'Galaway Girl',an Irish classic. Another great artist Yusuf Islam has a new album on the Shelves,'RoadSinger'. Needless to say,it is awesome, which proves that a real artist and his music never die. Jimmy buffet is another songer worthy of mention. Not only is he a great singer,he's also an enterpreneur too! The band City and Color formed recently by Dallas Green is another project which i liked a lot. Nowadays its very difficult to find real artists in the crowd of sellout teenage popstars and hip-hop punks. Speaking of punk, there's a reggae inspired song by Clash, called Bankrobber,do find time to hear it sometime! Till then, rock on good people, you make this world a better place.

Been a long time since this blog got some life. Talking of life,i've been busy with work in my new company over the last few months...But over the period i always find time for hunting for some new music. With the demise of Richard Wright, floyd would probably never perform again. Though not many, but rock bands still live on. Here is my review of some studio albums that i heard this year.

Death Magnetic (Metallica)

Since St. Anger Metallica went back to their good ol' thrash days. My first impression of this album was that of hearing raw thrash metal to its fullest. "The day that never comes" caught my attention. There is some really great work by Kirk on the track "Unforgiven 3". In fact most of the album has got really cool riffs. James Hetfield is still as brutal as he sounded in their 2nd album. The drums dont sound like tin cans anymore as they did in St.Anger. Overall not a bad attempt at saving their music,a dying genre.

Accelerate (R.E.M)

I have always liked R.E.M for their classic rock touch till this day. This album just rocks. Most of the tracks make an easy listening. Noticeable tracks include "Supernatural superseriou","Mansized wreath" and of course "Hollow man". "Horse to water" is another track that i personally like because of its tongue in cheek style. My rating:9 out of 10 for making this world a better place, without hurting everyone :D

Viva la Vida (Coldplay)

Ya i know, thats not the complete name of this one. I particularly had a lot of expectations from this album which is why i'm disappointed. Steve Martin wakes up one day and imagines his band replacing The Who,so why not create a rock opera like Tommy etc. The deep tracks dont exactly sound like Coldplay. Forget about the album sales which show this album as the best selling ever, the distinct sound for which we liked Coldplay has disappeared. Its ok to experiment with variety, but i would like coldplay to stick to their kind of stuff. I liked the opening track,"Life in technicolour" and some others though. Overall 7 out of 10.

Forth (The Verve)

They never had a mainstream success since Bittersweet symphony. But this one definitely is power packed. The album sounds fresh with the typical psychedelic overtones that made The Verve do business. IMO this band has succeeded a lot in bringing back the psychedelic rock of the 60s for today's audience. There is no such big track like Lucky Man or Bittersweet, but yeah the 1st number Love is Noise is particularly noticeable.

Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (Counting Crows)

I became a fan of counting crows since shrek! This album is a lot different than any of their previous works. There is a lot of piano work here with some really melodious tracks. I just fell in love with the track "When i dream of michelangelo". Almost all tracks are great. Highly recommended for people with a taste for melodious music.

Journey through music

'Music is food for your soul'.
Whoever said that must have felt the same way i do when he said that! There is something for every situation, every moment in life. You can in fact associate your life's moments with a song for each situation you're in.That basically makes your life an everlasting long song as it ideally should be! (Never mind that philosophical side of it) Also as jim morrison once said,"music is your only friend till the end". Its so true.No matter whether you've been an angel or an asshole, the music is always there for you in your times of joy and sorrow unconditionally.
I dont know what kind of music does it for you,but in my case, its never some single song or a single band,it come down to genres. I would prefer classic rock ballads anyday anytime, and rock'n roll most of the times. The bands PF,led zep, queen and springsteen always have a veto power, they can move in anytime they want! I dont know why,but its been a long time since i heard any heavy metal. In recent days i've been hooked on to polish blues bands and russian bands. They're great to listen to,especially when you're busy with work!
Also cat stevens/yusuf islam has been a recent favourite for me.
If you're always exploring many kinds of music like me,i can assure you this search is gonna last you a lifetime and will never go futile!

Music through the ages

Rock music has gone a long way.It has split up into so many sub-genres that sometimes ppl(take wikipedia for example) are confused what kind of genre to fit in a particular band!
But the real term is 'rockability'. The songs which broke the rules in early days of rock n roll.
Earlier, lets say in the 40s,a typical musician(jazz most commonly) would be wearing a black coat with a bow tie, singing to a sitting audience, everything calm and quiet.I would rather sleep listening to that!
Just compare that to today's scenario, lets say in an Aerosmith concert, with steven tyler with his antics all around the stage! It all started when the king,Elvis started to shake his legs at concerts.Initially it was considered vulgar! Elvis Presley was Rock n Roll.
He defined what direction music should go into.Though his last days were not that glorious with the advent of arena rock in the 70s,he will always be the man.Another great pioneer was Chuck Berry. His antics at that time were the predecessors of what is today a rock concert.By the beginning of the 60s,the stigmata with performance style was almost gone.
Then of course came the Beatles. No second artist has sold more albums that the Sgt pepper lonely heart club. They paved the way for the legends of the 70s to walk in. Then what happened in the 70s is history. No other decade has produced so many legends.
The 80s though mostly were dominated by pop music and glam metal, they also gave birth to heavy metal like metallica, megadeth etc. In case of heavy metal, just one man comes to my mind, ozzy osbourne with Black Sabbath. That band's classic line-up with ronnie james dio and tonny iommi gave birth to everything metal in today's terms.
90s saw birth of grunge and alternative with nirvana ruling the world. But it all comes down to today, the 00s,when none of it exists.People now listen to bullshit hip-hop,girlie pop bands, gangsta rap and what not. Music was dead since the 70s,its now that we're realising it,when most of the classic bands have either gone extinct or the members deceased. Pink Floyd after live 8 comes to my mind when i think of end of an era.But still people live on,with good news once a while. For instance, lets say,Led Zeppelin reuniting(who could have thought, john paul jones to come back!) or the album, long road to Eden by the eagles, one of my favourites.
As jim morrison said, people are strange.Really the music is dead.Today when i was playing 'cant help falling in love' on my guitar,it came to my mind whether Elvis was talking about a girl or music. The sad days have just begun. As i see it,the next decade would see the newest kind of music that already doing rounds,'techno'!
Life moves on,bands breakup, legends die.but their records live on,and so do the people who listen to it.

The Greatest Indian ever

How many people can you command at a time,5,10?
Ok,take it as 20,if that is the size of your team at work.

This guy on the right, can command 1,40,000 people at the same time to do anything he wants. Not because of his power, its his charisma. He could enchant people with his shows to sing with,to dance with him,to say whatever he wants them to say! People turn into puppets in his presence.
I doubt if such a showman can ever be here again in today's world again.

Farrokh bulsara(freddie mercury) is the most popular Indian who ever lived.Brought up in Bombay,he learned his music in India before moving over to Britain to gain worldwide fame.
Even mahatma gandhi could not come close to him in terms of popularity, when seen from the international point of view.
His name cannot be separated from the term 'classic rock'.
The music, lyrics anything that ever rolled out from the stables of the band 'Queen',had some part in it as freddie's contribution.
I've always loved queen, ever since i heard the first song(we're the champions).
If you go deep into lyrics of his songs, you can see very well what he wanted to convey to his audience. He wanted people to win,to have a winning attitude in life. His songs can take you through the darkest sides of life to the sweetest victories in life.Personally,i worship him as the greatest one. He's my favourite rockstar and the only person of whom i've a poster on my walls.
I dont own any costly merchandise, but yeah,i own everything,'queen' and freddie mercury have ever given to this world, their songs. I've seen all live concerts(on video of course!) and have listened to all his songs by now. My favourite is Live at Wembley'86 and Freddie mercury tribute concert. However the compilation called freddie which came in '00 was awesome. You get to see freddie mercury as never before, just concentrating on him instead of other queen members.
And about songs,i can go on and on for days, listing out my favourites! Anyhow, the songs on the compilation 'Platinum Queen"(3 discs) have got the best of the best songs written by freddie.
Now he many people accuse him of being gay, which was the reason of him getting aids. But come on,everyone has his own choice. As for me,its his music and personality that matters to me.

Here is the song which can make any real freddie mercury fan cry.

Now i wont bore anyone with his life history, you can read it here anytime you like.

I just wanted to state how brilliant a person can be.So much that he can influence generations even after his death. As a true rock fan and Indian,i salute freddie.

Bodybuilding,Linux and Rock n Roll

Ok,here i am again. Its been a really long long time,1 year to be exact. In the blogging world, that is something close to eternity! Whenever we waste time,we think of the wordings of songs which express our views. Most importantly,'Time' by pink floyd and 'Wasted Time' by eagles.
Rock n roll gives me a song everytime i'm down with life.It is definitely something that we like to listen to when we have tough times with our daily lives. In recent times,i've been listening to a lot of classic oldies from the sixties and fifties, like sinatra,bb king and johnny cash. The beautiful melody and lyrics written from their very core formed the very early days of rock n roll.
We definitely cant ignore how rock music changes our life, gives us strength and makes us a fighter again.
But there are two other things on which i live upon.Including rock music....bodybuilding and linux form the 3 cornerstones of my life.I've tried almost everything to make my life interesting,in these years of engineering. And finally i found out what i really love. All three fit together like pieces which were missing in my life.
I love music, that is what makes my soul work.I love bodybuilding,it makes my body work.
And finally i love linux, which is what makes me the person i want to be in life,to work on something that i really love. And also it may someday make my career work.
All the 3 have a certain factor of coolness attached to them.Practising any of these religions makes you cool.I practise all three of them daily in my life!
And also bodybuilding has been linked very closely to rock music.Freddie mercury showed us some muscularity with his fit figure. And also i dont think any rockstar was ever fat or obese! Recently most of the metal bands have started pumping iron to show off onstage, especially the norwegian black metal stars(who of course show a lot more than just muscles!)
And its a general norm of the entertainment industry to show fit and muscular people, starting from porn,to modelling to mainstream movies(even in bollywood movies these days). So bodybuilding has always been a rockstar's passion.
Sometimes its the opposite.Take Kevin Levrone for example. He's one of the biggest bodybuilders who is also a rockstar with his duo band 'full blown'.

Some may disagree on the third link, linux! But its the spirit of linux that i'm talking about here.It started as an underground movement, and is gaining importance in recent years.Intially very very few people heard about it.Now with some new age distros like ubuntu and fedora, its a threat to microsoft's business. It is ready now after more than 15 years of groundwork.
It can definitely be compared to rock music. In initial days, parents would tell their kids not to listen to rock music, like 'the doors' and 'sabbath'.But it was such a strong force that everyone got infected.Let alone just kids, everyone was drenched to the bone with ecstacy and rock and roll during the seventies.
Same is the story of bodybuilding. It was also a really underground movement.Very few people knew about bodybuilding, and people like arnold who advocated and marketed it,were considered weird. But after the 1977 documentary ,'Pumping Iron',everybody wanted to be in shape. Fitness paradise opened everywhere. And today someone who doesnt workout and doesnt stay in shape is considered outdated. If you are not into it,its never too late!

Now i hope the picture is quite clear.
Its really interesting to note how all three of them are so different, yet are so closely related to each other.
If this is the kind of life you lead, then you're with me and rocking the planet. If you're not, you're missing a small thing called 'life'.

Where r da lyrics dude!

It seems lyk i'm getting tym to blog only after an exam finishes!(dont think can blog 4 a long tym nw).Sometimes this blogspot seems a mess, sometimes perfect...but anyways i like it exactly the way it is.Well lets start a new quest today.A quest to find out lyrics!
As ppl know, rock music is heavily influenced by blues and country music.Sometimes motown sound too.If any of u had a 1st hand experience of how the songs r structured,u wud definitely notice how deep the lyrics mean to the listener/songwriter.I would come to a much known fig,bob dylan. He was probably one of the greatest lyricist in western music. Most of his songs reflect deep agony, pain, lessons of life and all those stuff. His biggest album, highway 61 revisited had my fav song, like a rolling stone. All these songs seem so exciting when u understand their lyrics and motive behind it.As decades passed, the focus of musicians shifted more towards melody than lyrics,in order to sell out.Things were pretty good in the 70s.On one side there was bruce springsteen, who concentrated more on the american common life and wrote songs based on those themes. Some of his songs are based on even some lanes or billboards in his native place! Anyways songs like 'born in usa' and 'my city of ruins' and inspired the american ppl to a big extent and he became an instant star. Another prominent american songwriter of that era was jackson browne.I would say that he was rather the biggest one in the 70s.Even now he shines on with his 2006 live acoustic album which is on music shelves as we speak. His lyrics were pretty much refined and matured. With each album, his prominence grew. The smash hit 'Take it easy' by eagles is actually his baby. The eagles were considered to be a landmark band in songwriting. Here is one of my fav.Just go through these beautiful lines,an equally beautiful song-

"After The Thrill Is Gone"

Same dances in the same old shoes
Some habits that you just can't lose
There's no telling what a man might lose,
After the thrill is gone

The flame rises but it soon descends
Empty pages and a frozen pen
You're not quite lovers and you're not quite friends
After the thrill is gone, oh,
After the thrill is gone

What can you do when your dreams come true
And it's not quite like you planned?
What have you done to be losing the one
You held it so tight in your hand well

Time passes and you must move on,
Half the distance takes you twice as long
So you keep on singing for the sake of the song
After the thrill is gone
After the thrill is gone

You're afraid you might fall out of fashion
And you're feeling cold and small
Any kind of love without passion
That ain't no kind of lovin' at all, well

Same dances in the same old shoes
You get too careful with the steps you choose
you don't care about winning but you don't want to lose
After the thrill is gone
After the thrill is gone.

And no one can ignore pink floyd when it comes to lyrics.Roger waters was a really good lyricist.Overall any artist produced acceptable lyrics. Those days were truly the golden age of rock n roll.
Ok,now jumping on to the present era, fortunately those stars still exist!
The Eagles released 'hole in the world' on 9/11 attacks. But ppl/musicians of today probably had got tired of that laid back thing. They wanted to do something totally diff 4rm their predecessors. Then came the dark lyrics in music. Thus evolved the succeeder of rock music in the world today "metal".
The doors were rt,rock music is dead! Wat exists is just a handful of those good 'ol rockstars performing just to survive. Its true that black sabbath invented heavy metal, but ozzy personally says tht he never liked the word 'metal' due to its lack of any connection wid music. Now i dont want to go into metal here.Lets just take a look at those lyrics here.It first was abt swearing, then went on and on to various underground topics like anti-christ,anti-establishment,blood,gore and all that.Well of course, metal is not the only form of music that exists today! There are a lot of sub-genres too. But as we are following the lyrics of rock music 4rm the 60s to this age,we reach metal, its direct succeeder.Lets look into a much more known fig today,System Of A Down.Mind u,i'm talkin of lyrics, not the song!
Here goes a piece of lyrics by SOAD 4rm their 2005 album 'hypnotize'-

"Kill Rock 'N Roll"

So I felt like the biggest asshole
Felt like the biggest asshole
when I killed your rock and roll
Mow down the sexy people

Every time I look in your eyes, every day I'm watching you die
All the thoughts I see in you about how I

So I felt like the biggest asshole
(felt like the biggest asshole)
When I killed your rock n roll
(Mow down the sexy people)
Every time I look In your eyes, every day I'm watching you die
All the thoughts I see in you about how I

Eat all the grass
Eat all the grass that you want
Accidents happen In the dark
Eat all the grass that you want
Accidents happen In the dark
Eat all the grass that you want
Accidents happen In the dark
Eat all the grass that you want

Accidents happen

Every time I look In your eyes, every day I'm watching you die
All the thoughts I see in you about how I

Why Why
Why Why

So I felt like the biggest asshole
When I killed rock n roll
When I felt like the biggest asshole
When I kill rock n roll.

Ok,here i dont need to say much.Just compare the lyrics above and the lyrics below.
Wat da hell, where is da song! Wl we ever get bk those old days wid decent lyrics and good songs.Coz thts how i'm built,i like to live in the past(courtesy:jethro tull!)....
Adieu.

Time to cover!

Truly,an original is always the best.Apply this to any field of study, including music.Today,as i was going through the lyrics of 'whiskey in the jar',it made a really brilliant story! This rock original is one of those 1st songs of thin lizzy, the irish band. The theme deals with a man who robs a lot of money and later is betrayed by his girlfriend. The song is also backed by strong vocals of phil lynott, one of the finest singers in rock music.Even without strong bass effect like metallica's cover version, this song really stands out.Metallica in their latter days started to cover a lot of songs instead of churning more originals.Turn the page by bob segar is another example on how a country song like that can be turned into rocking thrash metal number. Most modern rock bands cover each other's song.A band very frequent to do that is pearl jam.And everytime eddie vedder sings it out,it becomes a smash hit,no matter what! Another amazing song cover is by guns and roses.Yeah,i know that, even u know wat it is! Knockin on heaven's door became one of the biggest hits of GnR,but even today,i like the dylan version, simply because of its originality and melody. So,we can conclude that song covers are always for the good.
But just think what happens when our popstars try a hand on it! Sample 'american pie' which madonna sang a few yrs back.Well it certainly introduced tht song to a large mass of ppl,but in turn screwed the artist of the song! Every child u ask today knows that its a song by madonna.Well wat happened to mr.mclean, dead eh!
Another finer example is the recent version of iris released by ronan keating of boyzone fame.I still remember when i was playing iris(by goo goo dolls of course) at home during my last holidays. Then my younger bro sitting nearby asked,"Where did u get this song,i think i saw it on tv just 2-3 days back. Its by ronan keating na?" :(
Now that was sth that really disgusted me.Just because pop bands have a larger audience, doesnt mean that they wl go on covering rock originals, stealing the artist's name and attaching their own fuckin name to it.If u would listen to the ronan keating version,u can see that its 99.9% similar to the original by johnny rzenik
of goo goo dolls.Even rock artists dont do that.It should be called a copy then, instead of a cover.So......we see that song covers have all their pros with rock musicians and all cons with pop artists! So,next time,be careful on what u r hearing!
Keep rockin'

The 70s rock and its influence on India

For many days i've thinking of posting a good article, but always end up writing something in 15 min flat! Finally, here's an article which i consider has some new stuff rather than just rock n roll.
Mankind has seen many decades pass by.But it will never forget one which changed the world forever in terms of music. It was the 70s!
It was the tym when artists experimented with every new form of music possible. It was gr8 time to party wid no effects of drugs or alcohol known, ppl just had as much fun as they could with good ol rock n roll.
No one cant keep a count of how many stars that decade has produced.
I'll try to be brief, but here is a short list of artists and hit albums.
Dark side of the moon(it can be called as the sgt pepper of the 70s)shot pink floyd to stardom,Led zeppelin IV(Tht album was bigger than the band itself!) gave stairway to heaven to the world,Frampton comes alive etc.
Queen,Kiss,aerosmith,U2,alice cooper,police,def leppard,jackson browne,eagles,bob marley,elton john,stevie wonder,black sabbath,bruce springsteen,bad company,clapton,thin lizzy,ramones,hendrix,doors,van halen,peter frampton,fleetwood mac,twisted sister,lynard skynard............
I mean wooooooooooooow!!!!!To date, almost all the rockstars, megastars and superstars as we know today were created and rose in the 70s.
Imagine how it wud hav been living at that tym wid all of them performing live.
Coz remember that there was no MTV in the 70s.So if u want to see pink floyd,u got to be physically present at the gig. That would make the entire thing so special.

The revolution in rock music that took place in the 70s can be seen today, here in india.Earlier, the people in india used to listen to laidback and soft kind of music(Even today, many listen to it).But gradually they've got tired of that.In the early 2000,there took place a change that was simlar to that of US and UK in 70s.Suddenly these pakistani bands started to rule the charts.Anywhere we go,we get to listen to strings, jal, junoon, call or some similar bands playing a totally different kind of music that india had never heard before. If u introduce that music to a classic rock fan like us,we would just say....hmmm ok,but isnt that piece inspired from something!
The fact is that, these ppl are not doing anything magical, they just introduced rock music to indian people! Just try this:translate the hindi lyrics of any strings song into english and see the effect.U get a song that would seem as some unreleased track by def leppard or springsteen! They've got the guitar solos, riffs and also the lyrics which deal with the darker side of life as in rock music.
This is definitely a change for the good.Who knows, maybe later we will be having heavy metal bands from india or death metal someday!
Picture a band on the lines of metallica playing in hindi wid heavy guitar riffs. On that day, dont forget to visit this blog again!
ROCK ON.....

Punk!!!

Ok baby, its time to rock! Punk rock has influenced me ever since i got into it.
Esp The Ramones!
This genre is raw, wild, vivid and strong.Morever it has got a style of its own.i've seen many guys in our college sporting the so famous punk hairstyle(although they would not be having even the slightest idea of what it means!). Its a genre for rebel, for everyone. No long guitar solos,no intros, just pure music on the roll.Just 3 members,2 guitarists and a drummer is wat constitutes a punk rock band.
And u know what, nirvana was heavily influenced by punk rock!
Punk doesnt hav a very elaborate history. But when we talk of origins of this genre, definitely sex pistols and the ramones will come into picture. The ramones who started off back in '78 were almost non-stop untill they disbanded in '96 after a final show.Interestingly all the members died within a short span of the band being broken.Prominent members i know are lead singer joey ramone and dee dee ramone, their guitarist.I dont know which song to quote here! Coz all their songs are awesome,i havent heard a boring song yet! Here it goes in short...rockaway beach, kkk took my baby, sheena is a punk rocker, blitzkreig bop,do u wanna dance,my brain is hanging upside down,my sharona, hey ho lets go,rock n roll high school,i wanna be sedated, beat on the brat, gabba gabba hey.....List doesnt end here(man i just cant stop!)
Another pioneer of this genre were the sex pistols.Who can forget sid viscious, the man who became history at a very young age,but still gave us gr8 hits.
Clash is another vintage punk rock band, just heard one song 'london calling'.
I know most of the people dont know abt these bands,so here i come woth some familiar punk bands.
Green day.Who hasnt heard of them.Ruled most of the 90s punk. They idolized the ramones like any other punk band.
Then comes blink 182.A relatively newer band, but punk is all abt being new!
Really exciting when it comes to their music videos(most of them banned, esp the song all the small things!)
Then there is sum41 which has an indian guitarist for the record.Offspring is another notable band.

Ah well.....!

K fine,Its been a long long time since i posted last(So long that i even forgot my username here!).Rite now listening to fool in the rain by led zep and churning some thoughts out.
Rock music is so vast that it might never be possible for anyone to listen to all bands of all genres in a lifetime! Each time i update my music collection,it keeps on asking for more.Since long i've been thinking to download the rolling stones discography n fail each time.I dont know why,but that band is pretty overrated IMO.
Ok,they've been here since long,i think even longer than pink floyd. But man, their music just doesnt make sense to me.Satisfaction and sympathy for the devil are good enough though.Just if u compare PF with them, mick jagger will luk lyk a kid!
K to hell wid rolling stones,i recently am listening a lot of van halen and kiss. They sure were awesome, esp van halen.Just listen to the guitar solo by eddie van halen on the track eruption,a face melter! Dance the night away, right now and jump are three tracks that i wud recommend even to ppl who dont even listen to rock music.Too good! And what to say about kiss, just go and watch detroit rock city,it will speak loads about 'em.Most recent band to enter my playlist is jefferson airplane.Though initially it was a psychedelic band lyk PF,they split up and the band starship formeed later has a rock anthem to boast about."We built this city".
Now wait,i read somewhere that it is one of the top ten worst tracks of all times!
All i hav to say to them is,just go to hell.Listen to the track and then judge by yourself, never go by any shitty ratings by faggots. Its a gr8 song.
Long live rock n roll!!!
Long live metal \m/

Floyd talk

Today we had a ganesh puja here. After everything was over,i saw someone there wearing a t-shirt with the album art of division bell with the words "pink floyd".
This brought back memories of an argument which i had with my friend some days back.We had a discussion on whether pink floyd still exists or not! His point was that pink floyd was over after the final cut album in '83,when waters left.
Many floyd fans believe that too. Just because a single prominent member left da band, doesnt end the whole f'ckin band. And pink floyd in particular has set the greatest examples of all. They had the power to continue without syd barrett, then why not without waters.I mean roger waters had a gr8 voice, but it is screwed now.U can clearly see that in live8.
In fact most of my fav PF songs r from the last 2 albums pioneered by gilmour.High hopes, learning to fly, coming back to life,on the turning away, poles apart.....all awesome.
Hey i'm not anti roger waters, just wanted to put fwd my views on the last albums in front of my friend.
Well for the latest news, pink floyd seems to be over with gilmour cancelling all his tour dates due to his health. But we still can hope for one last gig!
Long live pink floyd!!!!

Top 50 Rock Songs

Ya,i know there are a lot of these top 50,top 100 et al. Mtv gives people a general idea that music is all about christina, britney, shakira and all kinds of crap.Just think of it,rock bands started making music videos just to sell on mtv, when their religion is to perform live.
Continuing with our defination of rock music,well....it cant be exactly defined!
Really, coz as a large no of bands came in,each one of them wanted to be called as a rockstar! So our rock music got divided into no. of sub-genres,like heavy metal, psychedelic, black metal, death metal, alternative, hard rock, glam metal and even piano rock(its what elton john plays!)Rock" had become a federation of genres rather than a well-defined genre. This schizophreny was already there in the 1960s, when rock music encompassed everything from Dylan's folk-rock to King Crimson's progressive rock, and every decade added new sub-genres. Eventually, rock music had become a genealogical tree of genres, each one owing its existence to some predecessor going back all the way to the generation of Chuck Berry.
But thankfully we still can bring all of these into one big frame, rock music.Roughly, rock can be considered as the music that is dominated by the heavy use of guitar and its lyrics. The lyrics of a rock song have much importance in our lives too. They deal with the darker side of life which we cant enjoy,or can be politically motivated also.Basically its about rebel,to give it to the world,to hit ur boss,to fuck pornstars,to yell at ur teacher,to get mad!
Go ahead and watch the school of rock. Its a gr8 movie in which jack black tries to teach some kids about rock music and its roots.
So welcome to the classic era of rock music, the 70s.When pink floyd, jimi hendrix, led zeppelin and the beatles ruled the world!
Lets end(or just begin!) with a small excerpt from steven styler's speech in rock n roll hall of fame.....

This is what rock does.
"Does it make you clench your fist when you sing along? Does it scare your parents to hell, and piss off the neighbours? Does it make you dance so close to the fire that you burn your feet--and still don't give a rat's ass? Does it make you want to stand up and scream for something that you're not even sure of yet? Does it make you want to boil your sneakers, and make soup outta your girlfriend's panties?
